L’Arche Spokane is based on welcome, simplicity, forgiveness and celebration, authentic relationships, suffering and joy, prayer, loss and grief, growth, and being a light for the world.  It is not based in any one religious tradition but is a way of life that can be lived in the context of any religious tradition.  As we welcome others creating authentic relationships with them through simplicity and prayer we experience loss, grief, suffering and joy together but through forgiveness and celebration we experience growth and become a light for the world.

L’Arche Spokane has a strong Catholic history, today not all of its members are Catholic.  We welcome, as L’Arche has an ecumenical mission, people of other Christian traditions, as well as other faiths and those without faith.   In addition to participating in our local churches and attending Sunday Mass and services, we come together for a community prayer once a month, we join together in prayer around every evening meal, we come together for evening prayer, and we have an annual Lenten retreat.  Assistants are responsible for accompanying the Core Members in their faith journey and facilitating the expression of their faith.  Some of the Core Members take ownership of their faith, and they enjoy seeing assistants do the same.

As a community of faith, we respect, encourage, and support everyone’s individual journey; we expect that you will assist the Core Members to live, share, and deepen in their journeys and we ask that you share as you feel comfortable.  It is our hope that those who come to and join our community find joy in our spiritual life and, if that is not possible, that they can show respect for what we believe and practice and fulfill the regular spiritual life responsibilities of an assistant.
