What does a Board Member do?

 

L’Arche Spokane is a registered 501c3 in the State of Washington.  As such we are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. These dedicated people are responsible for the governance and financial state of the community. These include:  planning and participating in fund raising events, monitoring and execution of yearly budget, support for the spiritual life of the community, support for community life, and outreach to the greater community on behalf of L’Arche Spokane.  Together with the executive director, the board develops the strategic plan to oversee and maintain the over-all growth of the community.b


The Board of Directors has ultimate responsibility for the recources of the organization and ensures that these resources are best employed to carry out the ongoing mission of the community. L’Arche Spokane expects its board members to be active participants in both community activities and larger L’Arche events and in fundraising.

 

What is L’Arche  Spokane looking for in a board member?


We are always looking for people who would like to come and serve for the community and with the following skills:

 

- Fundraising and grant writing
- Accounting and bookkeeping
- Personnel management
- Public policy (particularly as related to disability issues)
- Advocacy and disability services
- Strategic planning

 

What is the time commitment expected of a board member?

 

Board members are expected to attend regular meetings.   They are also expected to attend different events to announce L’Arche and raise funds. Board members are encouraged to come to our monthly Community Night celebration and other occasions as they are able.
