Assistants are responsible for living a commitment to the care and well being of the Core Members, working in a spirit of cooperation with others to promote community, and committing to a healthy rhythm of life.

The primary task for the assistant is to create home, in the context of friendship with the Core Members. The specific responsibilities may include helping someone with their personalhygiene, teaching new skills such as cooking or using public transit, accompanying people to medical appointments, going out somewhere with a group, sharing in the house cooking, cleaning, and maintenance.  It is withinthese tasks that relationships are built and home is created.  The shared leadership model in our community asks that all the members of the house to take on some of the responsibilities of running the home. This may involve paperwork, budgeting, shopping, cleaning, cooking, leading prayer in the evening…  The work is discussed and shared by the team of 3-4 assistants and by the house.  It is an opportunity to share one’s gifts, as well as to share the tasks that maybe no oneenjoys.

In addition, an assistant is expected to attend and contribute to various community meetings and events.  Much of the community’s well-being depends on freely giving of oneself, one’s talents, and one’s energies.  The tasks are often not sophisticated, but it is in the ordinary, daily life that we build the relationships on which the community is founded.
